Karyn MacLean has been playing old time and Irish music since she wandered into “Sir Benedict’s” jam session  in 1992.  Classically trained in voice and violin, she is active in the local bluegrass and old-time music community.  Karyn has performed with  “The Herd,” “Silver Lining,” “Stage Fright,” “Arrowhead Chorale,” “Rosewood String Band,” “Jameson Drover,” the “Fish Heads,”  and at “Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua” with Dave McCormick and others.

Bill's Notes:  I started jamming with Mark and Karen at Big Top Chautauqua in September of 2001 before the Del McCoury show (where I met Becky Schlegel who opened for Del). BTC has a really cool open stage hosted by Dave McCormick. Karyn has a rich country-bluegrass voice which really added the sound that I wanted for "Wake Up!" and "Where Does the Ice Go?" Her fiddle playing, likewise, was a perfect compliment to those songs as well as That's How She Seems, where, in those opening segments, her introductory licks helped to set the festive tone of the song. Karyn and Mark have been very good to me and I appreciate them greatly.
